Our People

Meet: Shelly Shi – Executive Director Finance, APAC

At Sealed Air, celebrating our people and their accomplishments is a core part of our culture. In our “Meet: Our People” series, you’ll hear directly from our people across the globe on what it’s like working at SEE, and a little bit about them outside of work.

Length of time at SEE: 15 years.

Could you tell me a little about your current role? - I lead a team of Finance professionals who support the APAC Commercial and Supply Chain team. We analyze data, extract information from data, and communicate in an intuitive way to the business to help them with strategy building, decision making, and performance tracking.

What’s your favorite part of what you do? - I enjoy working cross-functionally with other teams and, particularly, interacting with different people in the organization. My role allows me to interact with a wide group of colleagues from Finance, Commercial, Marketing, Supply Chain, and even factory workers. Everyone brings diversified knowledge, insight, and information from their different walks of life. Learning new things everyday keeps me motivated every morning.

What is your favorite mantra or quote? - My favorite quote is from Kazuo Inamori: “A clear and pure mind can feel positive energy, while a selfish heart sees complexity and chaos.”

He also explains that we should never lose the feeling of gratitude, whatever our circumstances may be, always be thankful, and express gratitude to those around us. It’s important for us to live each day with a good and pure mind because it draws forth strength that surpasses our understanding and supports our endeavors.

Where can we find you when you’re not at work? - Painting... I love painting! It’s my routine that I go painting in an art studio every Sunday afternoon. I have been painting for more than four years. It helps me stay focused, re-energize, and refine my mind to get ready for a new week.

What leaders or trailblazers have you admired in your career, and what did it mean to you to have them provide that leadership example? - I’m very lucky to have met and work with a lot of great leaders in my career. I started my career in KPMG Shanghai, where I first met Denise Ling, an Audit Partner from KPMG Shanghai, who taught me how important it is to always deliver quality information beyond data and try to go the extra mile.

From there, I joined SEE and met so many great leaders who helped me grow my career and become who I am now. Just to name a couple of them in APAC, they are Alessandra Faccin, President of Asia Pacific, and Catherine Dickson, APAC Region General Counsel and VP. I’ve learned so much from both, as they demonstrate leadership qualities in every conversation we have. They inspire me to be authentic in my leadership, to always prioritize from hustle and bustle, and to stay focused on those priorities. I know I can always look for them when I need support. They give me a great level of confidence to keep on doing the right things for the company and for myself.

What is the importance of mentorship? - I’m proud to say that I have benefited so much from different mentorship programs at SEE. Mentorship for women and girls is especially important because it helps to build confidence and to guide through challenges as they advance in workplaces and in schools. More importantly, to help them become the persons they want to be rather than the persons they are asked to be.
