Meet: Tre’jon Spratling – Group Performance Lead

At Sealed Air, celebrating our people and their accomplishments is a core part of our culture. In our “Meet: Our People” series, you’ll hear directly from our people across the globe on what it’s like working at SEE, and a little bit about them outside of work.

Where are you located? - Seneca, S.C, U.S.A.

Could you tell me a little about your current role?  - I am the Group Performance Lead for the Seneca films plant. In this role I am responsible for maintaining key performance indicators such as yield and volume to ensure that our people are set up for success.

Who has been your biggest inspiration? - An inspirational figure for me is my father, John Spratling. He is very active in the community I grew up in and has charted many landmark programs such as the Scarboro 85 which is a group of 85 black students that were among one of the first integrated high schools in Tennessee. History had been “lost” and my dad and his team brought that history to light. What inspires me most about this story is that he was able to take members of that initial class who were still alive and go to Washington D.C. to be recognized. In addition, he has started an endowment fund to generate scholarships for members of the Scarboro community.

What is your favorite mantra or quote?  - My favorite mantra is “Play chess not checkers.” I heard this saying early in my career and it stuck with me. Being a member of operations management, it is critical that we think strategically (chess) for long term moves down the road. In a nutshell, rather than putting out fires, find out what is causing the fire and fix the root of the problem.

What do you like to do outside of work? - Currently, I am an active member of both Greenville, S.C., Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals and pacesetters program. Through this I have been able to network with other professionals in the Greenville area.

What advice do you have for people looking to start their careers or become leaders today?  - My advice for leaders today is to learn how to “fail fast” and put people first. People are the most important asset to any company and when they know you care they will go the extra mile when needed.
