Our People

Meet: Marcie Knox, Process Engineer

At Sealed Air, celebrating our people and their accomplishments is a core part of our culture. In our “Meet: Our People” series, you’ll hear directly from our people across the globe on what it’s like working at SEE, and a little bit about them outside of work.

Where I’m located: Simpsonville, S.C., U.S.A.

Length of time with SEE: 4 years.

My job makes me feel: Like I am an important member of a team.

A typical day for me is: A balance between addressing process issues and advancing project work.

I help our SEE Operating Engine by: Developing automation projects into commercial process improvements. I also provide process support for the day-to-day operation of CRYOVAC® brand food packaging bags extrusion. I was recently selected as a National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) 2022 STEP Ahead Honoree, and it is an honor. My accomplishments are the result of the Simpsonville CRYOVAC® brand food packaging bags extrusion team working together toward the same goals.

The STEP Ahead Awards recognize women in science, technology, engineering and production careers who exemplify leadership within their companies. SEE is a member of NAM and our CEO Ted Doheny serves on its board of directors.

What inspired you to have a career in manufacturing: I’m the third generation of women in my family to work in manufacturing. My grandmother worked in a factory making bombs for World War II. She talked about that time fondly and how the assembly work she performed was important. Her life in the early 1940s reflected her independent spirit and determination. My mother was an Electrical Machinist for a steel mill for 35 years, her initial hiring the result of Affirmative Action efforts in the 1970s. She would tell us stories at the dinner table about mill life. Most were small things, anecdotes from the day or details about the equipment she was rebuilding. Now I share those same kinds of stories with my kids — about the time a robot misbehaved or how we tried something new, and it didn’t work yet, but we learned a lot.

If I could have lunch with one person from history, it would be: Agatha Christie.
