Our People

Meet: Beverly Caligaris – Main Quality Control Lab Technician

At Sealed Air, celebrating our people and their accomplishments is a core part of our culture. In our “Meet: Our People” series, you’ll hear directly from our people across the globe on what it’s like working at SEE, and a little bit about them outside of work.

Length of time at SEE: 20 years.

Location: Simpsonville, S.C., U.S.A.

Could you tell me a little more about your current role? - My role consists primarily of testing raw materials and finished products. I ensure the materials meet our internal and customer quality standards.

I also assist in troubleshooting production issues and addressing customer complaints. Some of this testing includes using microscopes to verify that all layers are present in the film, hot stage equipment to detect gels or other contamination in film, DSC (differential scanning calorimetry) instruments to determine the melting point of resins, friction testers to determine how film will slide on the customer’s equipment and Instron testers to measure a films ability to hold a seal.

In addition to testing materials’ physical and chemical attributes, I also test extrusion process water for microorganisms to validate the effectiveness of the hygiene program to ensure that our products meet Food Safety Standards.

What is your favorite mantra or quote?  - “Go ahead and tell the truth first, because if the truth must be discovered the consequences change.” -Bev C.

“The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.” - Bob Marley

What are you passionate about? - I’m the founder and Executive Director of Wright’s House of Hope Inc., a faith-based non-profit ministry. My purpose is serving and empowering at-risk youth between the ages of 11-20 who are incarcerated or aging out of foster care.

I go to jail once, sometimes twice a month, to inspire teens and encourage them to understand that their lives are not defined by the poor choices they’ve made in the past. Our lessons are biblically based but relative to the challenges they are experiencing. We call it “planting seeds” of potential into youth who think they have no hope, no value, and that no one would consider loving them unconditionally. My husband and I have been foster parents to over 25 youths and homeless young mothers in our home over the last fifteen years. We no longer foster youth, but we’ve built forever relationships that we will value for a lifetime. The youth expand our capacity to love.

Outside of work, you can find me:  My husband, Mark, and I love hanging out around our nine grandchildren, aka our “jellybeans.” Oops, we love my children too, but those grands are absolutely the joy of our lives!!! Mark and I also enjoy traveling. At work, I’m involved in the DEI Council, the B-Advance employee resource group, and Co-Chair of my site’s quality group.

What advice do you have for people looking to start their careers or become leaders today? - Have a teachable spirit, build relationships, and own what YOU DO!
