Andrew Bateman Headshot
Our People

Meet: Andrew Bateman, Associate Product Owner

At Sealed Air, celebrating our people and their accomplishments is a core part of our culture. In our “Meet: Our People” series, you’ll hear directly from our people across the globe on what it’s like working at SEE, and a little bit about them outside of work.

Where I’m located: Charlotte, N.C., U.S.A.

My job makes me feel: Like a human being. Working on a team of very intelligent people is a constant reminder of how much there is to learn. Being Collaborative is the main ingredient in developing great products and services. Collaboration is optimized when every member of the team understands where they can provide value and they do it, and a welcoming and inspiring environment needs to exist for that to happen. That environment is what I have experienced at SEE.

Having collaborated with SEE on the new brand prismiq during my time as a student at Savannah College of Art & Design, I got a taste of what it would be like to work at SEE. I was excited when I got the call to interview and the opportunity to work here.

A typical day for me is: Starting with a daily stand-up meeting to align on the team's goals and vision, followed by several other meetings. In between meetings, I work on different initiatives currently in my workstream. The culture at SEE is prominent in every interaction I have. No one has ever made me feel as though I was receiving orders on what to do, or that I was simply just a number in a huge organization, and coming from a military background, I know that feeling all too well.

I helped our SEE Operating Engine by: Collaborating and contributing to the best of my ability across different teams that I am interacting with, especially with my work around prismiq.

“Andrew’s skillset and his contributions within the team and other cross functional teams are invaluable," says Product Owner Teja Adusumilli. "His inquisitiveness and persistence continue to impress me and I’m looking forward to all the great things we can achieve together as a team.”

The core value that inspires me the most is Innovative because: It doesn't
simply refer to designing and implementing new products and services, but being innovative starts with culture. Innovation comes from new ideas and new ideas can only happen in a welcoming environment. Anxiety impedes creative thought and the culture at SEE impedes anxiety.

If I could have lunch with one person from history, it would be: Eighteenth century German philosopher Immanuel Kant. I would ask him why the books he wrote were so confusing. I understand that user-centered design was not invented yet, but I would love to explain the concept to him. Kant believed that the objects of experiences are mere "appearances" and that the nature of things as they are in themselves is consequently unknowable to us. But the only thing that is "unknowable" to us is the way he explained it.

When reading his book, I no longer want to say "I Immanuel Kant"...I want to say "I Immanuel Kan(t)."
