Meet: Alessandra Souza – Business Development Director, Brazil

At Sealed Air, celebrating our people and their accomplishments is a core part of our culture. In our “Meet: Our People” series, you’ll hear directly from our people across the globe on what it’s like working at SEE, and a little bit about them outside of work.

Length of time at SEE: 23 years.

What’s your favorite part of your position? - Every day is different. Each day is a new day full of new adventures. In my opinion, each day has a different dynamic, with new opportunities and knowledge. I love being in face-to-face meetings with customers, gaining understanding of their needs, and proposing potential solutions.

Growing up, was there someone in your life that inspired you to become who you are today? - My mother! She came from a simple family and could not finish elementary school. When she was pregnant with her fifth child, she came back to school and finished elementary and high school. From that point, she never stopped learning, and was working towards graduation. During this time, she was working as an elementary teacher while working towards a post-graduate degree and raising five children. She eventually became a school director at the end of her career. She was my strong example of dedication and effort to follow her dreams.

What is your favorite mantra or quote? - “If a problem has no solution, it is already solved.” (Author unknown)

This is a quote that my father used to say when I was worried about a problem. He would say, if we can have a fresh mind, the solution will come. It made such an impact on me at that age that I took this as a mantra for my life. So, if I can stay focused and calm when difficult times arise, I can contribute to a better solution, especially when I’m working with a team.

Where can we find you when you’re not at work? - With my family. We have two children, Henrique (12 years old) and Gabriela (9 years old). Sometimes we will take time to go to a park on weekends, watch a movie at the cinema, anything really where we can spend time together. On the weekends, my extended family will come over and we will have a barbecue or just spend time together. Being around my family is my favorite time to spend away from work.

What advice do you have for people looking to start their careers or become leaders today? - I would say that proactivity and curiosity are essential. Considering that knowledge is an important part of our development combined with action. Cultural aspects are also important and when there is a match between these things, we feel at home. Another thing I can advise is for the people to take risks, don’t be afraid of accepting challenges.
