SEALED AIR WINS INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION WITH A FOOD CATEGORY WORLDSTAR

Wednesday, May 3, 2017

This week Sealed Air Corporation (NYSE:SEE)  beat competition from around the world by winning a coveted WorldStar for their innovative packaging product Cryovac® Darfresh® on Tray.  Organised by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO), the WorldStar Competition recognises advanced packaging design and technology and is renowned as the preeminent international award in packaging held every year. For the 2017 competition, there were 292 packaging projects entered from 35 different countries.

Cryovac Darfresh on Tray won a WorldStar in the Food category. This success is followed by another win in the Czech Republic’s Obal Roku 2016 awards, where Cryovac® Darfresh®packaging system won in the Food and Save Food categories.

The Czech wins were based on Sealed Air’s long-standing partnership with meat and sausage processor Kostelecke Uzeniny, where the system led to extended product shelf life and outstanding product merchandising for the processor. After winning a national competition for Cryovac Darfresh system, Darfresh on Tray was eligible for judging in the international WorldStar Competition.

“Winning a WorldStar is a real achievement. The competition attracts innovative entries from across the globe and is judged by leading experts,” said Jonathon Durnford, EMEA vice president of food packaging at Sealed Air Food Care “This year, 74 products were submitted in the Food Category, with each entry already having won acclaim in national or regional competitions. Darfresh on Tray’s success is testament to the outstanding performance of its unique second skin.”

The Darfresh on Tray vacuum packaging system is designed to carefully wrap around every contour of a fresh meat product. This creates the second skin, which is highly abuse resistant and hermetically sealed to enhance food safety, quality and freshness.

“Judging in the WorldStar awards focuses on whether a product delivers superior performance in its category and in the market. Darfresh on Tray delivers against thiscriteria as it can almost double shelf life compared to some other packaging formats, while also delivering significant efficiencies, added Durnford.

This innovative solution can make packaging processes up to 35 percent faster, reduce material usage by 40 percent and cut packaging volumes by up to 50 percent. Cube optimisation means that more food products can be transported per square metre, helping minimise the number of vehicles in the supply chain and improving sustainability.

Darfresh on Tray will formally receive its WorldStar 2017 at a gala dinner in May of next year. This follows judging that took place on Nov. 17, 2016 in Vienna, Austria.

“Darfresh on Tray helps processors and retailers to optimise packaging performance, reduce costs, lower carbon emissions and build brands. It is an honour to see these benefits recognised by leading professionals from the global packaging industry, concluded Durnford.”
