At Sealed Air, the health, safety, and security of our employees is our top concern – especially those on the front lines in our manufacturing plants. Their tireless efforts to meet the demand is admirable and appreciated as all of our employees work to deliver on Sealed Air’s mission to protect, solve critical packaging challenges, and leave our world better than we found it.
During the COVID-19 crisis, with supply chains under tremendous and unprecedented strain, Sealed Air continues to play a vital role in ensuring access to safe food, medicine, and other critical products. The company’s protective packaging enables these products to be transported quickly and safely to end users that need the items most.
As COVID-19 continues to spread, Sealed Air is focused on navigating the crisis responsibly and keeping all employees safe. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Sealed Air has followed the recommendations and guidance of health authorities and local governments across the globe and has instituted these precautionary measures at all its sites worldwide:
Ensuring the safe and dependable production and transport of food, consumer goods, medicine, and other necessary supplies is core to Sealed Air's purpose. We are in business to protect, and that remains our top priority. We have put significant business continuity plans and preventative measures in place to protect our operations and customers from adverse impacts. These measures include:
Sealed Air remains committed to producing and delivering protective packaging products that exceed industry standards for quality and safety. We will continue to follow rigorous precautionary measures as recommended by health officials and local governments to protect our employees, operations, and customers.
We understand the concerns some may have about COVID-19 surface transmission during this crisis. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) report a low risk of COVID-19 spreading from products or packaging materials. According to the CDC, “Although the virus can survive for a short period on some surfaces, it is unlikely to be spread from domestic or international mail, products, or packaging.”
Pertaining to food packaging specifically, the WHO states: “There is currently no evidence that people can catch COVID-19 from food or food packaging.” The CDC states: “The risk of infection from food products, food packaging, or bags is thought to be very low.”
As a science-driven company, Sealed Air continuously develops solutions and systems to meet critical customer challenges. No challenge has been more important than the COVID-19 crisis and we are proud to support the worldwide delivery of vaccines by providing high-performance insulative packaging materials that can maintain the extreme temperatures some of the vaccines require. Sealed Air is able to provide global end-to-end temperature assurance solutions to ensure the safe delivery of the vaccines across the logistical value chain.
Sealed Air provides packaging solutions to more than 120 countries. Many of our customers are the producers and retailers directly responsible for supplying food, medicine, and other critical items global citizens depend on daily for their health and survival. The majority of local and national governments and authorities have deemed these industries, including Sealed Air's global packaging operations, to be a critical part of the infrastructure that is supporting society during the COVID-19 crisis.
Sealed Air is committed to its purpose and to preparedness, and continues to take all necessary precautions to protect its people as well as the customers and communities it serves.
Where possible and not impacted by government measures on COVID-19 containment, Sealed Air’s manufacturing plants are continuing to operate and generally maintain normal lead times to support customers. At this time, the company’s inbound receiving and outbound shipping operations are unimpacted.
