RELAX, BUBBLE WRAP® APPRECIATION DAY IS ON THE WAY

Friday, January 22, 2021

CHARLOTTE, N.C., January 22, 2021 – It’s no secret that BUBBLE WRAP® brand is known for the symphonic sound and satisfying sensory experience of popping a perfect air-filled bubble. In fact, the pop of BUBBLE WRAP® material is so iconic, it’s easy to forget the brand’s actual legacy is more than 60 years of protecting small parcel shipments from the bumps and bruises encountered during the delivery journey.

But after a year of immense uncertainty and incredible human resilience, the BUBBLE WRAP® brand family wants you to know it’s officially okay to forget about the practical purpose of our packaging material and treat yourself to unfettered bubble-popping bliss.

Pop Away the Stress

Join us on Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day (Monday, January 25) and reach for a sheet (or a whole roll) of air-pocket perfection. Not only is it fun for all ages, it’s one of the simplest and most affordable methods of scientifically proven stress relief.

A survey conducted by Kelton Research revealed that one minute of popping BUBBLE WRAP® brand cushioning provided the stress relief equivalent to a 33-minute massage.

In the 1990s, psychology professor Kathleen Dillon conducted a study of 30 undergraduate students to assess whether popping BUBBLE WRAP® brand cushioning would reduce stress. The subjects reported feeling significantly more energized, less tired, and calmer after popping the packaging material. Dillion published her findings, “Popping Sealed Air-Capsules to Reduce Stress,” in the Psychological Reports journal.

Mind empowerment coach Lori Bestler offers tips on her website for using BUBBLE WRAP® brand cushioning to self-soothe. Popping BUBBLE WRAP® “is releasing pent up stress out of your system with each focused burst,” she writes. “Popping bubbles places one’s stressor, usually a prolonged problem or conflict situation, on something fun.”

Do Good After Deflating

No need to stress out when the popping is over, feel better by collecting all your deflated BUBBLE WRAP® brand cushioning and dropping it off at a local grocery store or retailer for recycling. Find a nearby location here.

BUBBLE WRAP® brand cushioning, along with other flexible plastics such as shopping bags and SEALED AIR® brand air pillows, is collected from store drop-off locations and turned into things such as plastic composite lumber for decks, floor tiles, compost bins, and trash cans. Nothing stressful there.

About BUBBLE WRAP® Brand Packaging
In 1957, Alfred W. Fielding and Marc Chavannes set out to create a new wall covering by laminating two plastic sheets with air bubbles in between. Although their invention never caught on as interior decor, the two men discovered the material's lightweight, insulating properties were very useful – first as greenhouse insulation and then as the protective packaging material we now know as BUBBLE WRAP® brand packaging. In 1960, Fielding and Chavannes founded Sealed Air Corporation with BUBBLE WRAP® brand packaging as the company's signature product.
