Sealed Air carried away a double success this year with two winning products for PackTheFuture award at a special awards ceremony on 9 May during Interpack in Düsseldorf

Monday, May 15, 2017

PackTheFuture competition, co-organised by French Plastic and Flexible Packaging Association, Elipso, and the IK Industrievereiningung Kunstoffverpackungen e.V.German Plastics Packaging Association, awarded Sealed Air’ Cryovac® Sealappeal® PSF ZAL in the Ecodesign and Cryovac® Oven Ease®  in the Social Benefit categories.

Designed with sustainability in mind, Cryovac Sealappeal PSF ZAL is a high peelable shrink film with a unique sealing layer. It has been designed for ready-to-eat products tray lidding or thermoforming applications. The wide low temperature sealing window (110°C) keeps delivering consistent peelability, sealing strength and tearing free, while reducing energy consumption during production cycles. The one-piece-peel features allow relidding on same trays which reduces material wastage in case of a production issue.

Additionally, moving film structure from APET/PE to PET film decreases film weight versus market standards. This results in improved productivity but also in less green fees and disposal costs thanks to lighter material.

The Social Benefit distinction for Cryovac® Oven Ease® confirms that this solution meets current trends and facilitates convenience, portion control and consumption. Cryovac Oven Ease is an ovenable material, which withstands hot air, steam, water, convection or microwave cooking in temperatures up to 200°C and freezing up to -25°C. It allows for pre-seasoned or pre-marinated food to be cooked or reheated in different oven types in the same film, in which it is packed.  Oven Ease also eliminates the need for consumers and food service operators to touch uncooked meat, preventing the risk of cross-contamination.

“Oven Ease makes it easier for consumers to eat healthier, tastier and more succulent meals  at home with minimum cooking skills and time,” explains Brian Jack, regional sales executive director at Sealed Air Food  “Our experience in Europe shows that this packaging helps the market to innovate, but it also makes it possible to bring back traditional recipes. We see a big come-back of dishes, which are normally too time-consuming for busy consumers to prepare.”

Winners of the 2017 PackTheFuture – Sustainable Plastic Packaging Award were announced on 9th of May at Interpack show in Düsseldorf, Germany. Additionally, the World Packaging Organization recognized the competition as eligible for qualification for the WorldStar Awards 2018 programme.
