Sealed Air Announces Expansion to Cryovac® Ready Meal Applications
DUNCAN, S.C. (Oct. 24, 2007) – With the increasing demand from consumers for cooking alternatives that make life easier, the heat-and-serve meal category is growing. To fulfill this rapidly increasing need, Sealed Air’s Cryovac Food Solutions announces the expansion of its Ready Meal packaging line with the introduction of four new technologies.
Cryovac® Ready Meal packaging is now available with a Simple Steps® reduced density polypropylene (RDPP) tray or using three new CPET technologies – vacuum skin packaging (VSP), tray lidding, and BDF overwrap. All of these technologies offer the benefits of steam-assist cooking and stay-cool handles. As well, all the Cryovac® Ready Meal packaging applications now can be used for microwave cook-from-raw products, in addition to heat-and-serve products, enabling processors to get into the value-added market at a lower price point than pre-cooked applications.
The versatile Simple Steps® RDPP tray offers formability and minimal tooling costs for multiple shaped trays because it runs on existing thermoforming systems. Processors create RDPP trays online as needed, and can perforate the material as well.

The Ready Meals CPET vacuum skin package provides numerous benefits in addition to being ovenable. The easy-open, microwaveable package is designed with vacuum skin package technology that holds the juices in place, and the unique self-venting feature keeps moisture in and eliminates mess.
For many applications that may not be suited for vacuum skin packaging, the Ready Meals CPET tray lidding application is ideal. It can be used for all value-added meats currently in case ready
