Sealed Air Takes Home Two 2007 WorldStar Packaging Awards
DANBURY, CONN. (Jan. 15, 2007) – Sealed Air Corp., a leading manufacturer of food and protective packaging systems and materials, received two WorldStar Packaging Awards at the 2007 WorldStar meeting held in Athens, Greece on Oct. 24. Sealed Air’s Korrvu® suspension and retention package for patient monitoring systems earned a WorldStar award in the pharmaceutical & medical category while Cryovac® Flavour Mark™ retort pouches earned a WorldStar award in the food category.
Sealed Air’s Korrvu® suspension and retention package
“The beauty of Sealed Air’s Korrvu® suspension and retention packaging is that it is custom designed to meet the specific needs of our customers,” said Gerry Stone, director of sales and marketing for Sealed Air’s Special Products Group.
Sealed Air’s packaging engineers created the Korrvu® packaging solution for patient monitoring systems based upon the needs of Spacelabs Healthcare, Inc., an international developer, manufacturer and distributor of medical equipment. The packaging solution was designed to hold a patient monitoring system between two membranes of elastomeric Korrvu® film to keep the item securely in the airspace of the shipping container and away from the sides of the box. The end result is a recyclable package that saves space and money without sacrificing protection.
Sealed Air’s Cryovac® Flavour Mark™ retort pouches
Cryovac® Flavour Mark™ retort pouches provide a shelf-stable, flexible alternative to cans and refrigerated pouches, with better, more consistent flavor and texture than food packaged in #10 cans. Flavour Mark™ retort pouches can hold anywhere from 16 to 128 ounces and are made with a high-performance, multi-layer, coextruded film, which provides secure, high-integrity seals to survive the rigors of rough handling during distribution.
“Flavour Mark™ retort pouches provide processors and foodservice operators with various benefits when compared to cans including lower material costs, more efficient storage, safer handling, more efficient labor, and lower waste disposal,” explained Frank Bauer, Sealed Air’s retort marketing manager.
WorldStar award winners were chosen from 291 entries representing 32 different countries. A jury made of representatives from the World Packaging Organization and the International Packaging Press Organization chose the winners during a meeting hosted by the Greek Packaging Manufacturers Associations.
