Cryovac® Flavour Mark™ Pouch Offers Foodservice Operations Shelf-Stable Food in a Flexible Pouch
New Packaging Format Provides Alternative to #10 Cans
DUNCAN, S.C. (Oct. 30, 2006) – There is finally a shelf-stable, flexible alternative to cans and refrigerated pouches. Cryovac® Flavour Mark™ pouches provide better, more consistent flavor and texture than food packaged in #10 cans. Because of its lower profile, food does not take as long to heat in a flexible pouch as it does in a can, so it endures less heat abuse during the retort process. Pouches provide processors and foodservice operators with various other benefits when compared to cans including lower material costs, more efficient storage, safer handling, more efficient labor, and lower waste disposal costs.
Flavour Mark™ shelf-stable technology provides a durable, flexible pouch option for processors and foodservice operators seeking greater flavor and texture in retorted products. The pouches can hold anywhere from 16 to 128 ounces and offer nearly 100 percent product yield for foods such as chili with meat, stews, soups, vegetables and sauces.
Cryovac® Flavour Mark™ pouches are made with a high-performance, multi-layer, coextruded film for products that require thermal processing (250 degrees Fahrenheit) after packaging to achieve shelf stability. The film also provides secure, high-integrity seals to survive the rigors of rough handling during distribution.
Food Processor Benefits
One roll of Cryovac® Flavour Mark™ film can form enough pouches to package the equivalent of 1,600 #10 cans and occupies only three cubic feet of storage space. An equivalent number of cans would need approximately 265 cubic feet of space. As well, Flavour Mark™ pouches can offer substantial packaging savings over #10 cans.
Foodservice Benefits
Flavour Mark™ pouches are ideal for foodservice operators with limited refrigerator space. Since the film is clear, the food product inside is visible and easily identifiable. The pouches can be easily reheated, as opposed to foil alternatives.
Foodservice operators no longer need to worry about safe handling with pouches because there are no harmful, jagged edges or shards. Flexible pouches can be opened with an easy-open tear notch so scissors or knives are not needed. Also, empty pouches occupy significantly less space in disposal bins and weigh ten times less than an empty #10 can – resulting in lower waste disposal costs.
