Expand Your Potential with New Shrink Packaging Equipment Introduced by Sealed Air at Pack Expo International 2004

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. (Nov. 7, 2004) - Sealed Air Corporation will introduce groundbreaking concepts by showcasing its new modular Shanklin® Omni shrink packaging equipment at this year’s Pack Expo International 2004. New offerings including the Cryovac® BL-101 automatic bag loader, the Cryovac® Onpack 2100A vertical form-fill-seal system, the Fill-Air Velocity inflatable packaging system, the Instapak® ROI packaging system, PriorityPak system and the SpeedyPacker® Insight foam-in-bag system also will be on display in the Sealed Air booth, 2413S, at McCormick Place in Chicago.

A press conference to introduce the next generation of shrink packaging is planned for Monday, Nov. 8 beginning at 8 a.m. at the booth, spotlighting the theme, "Our Products Protect Your Products®." Following the press conference, media are invited to an Open House to discuss the packaging company’s extensive line of packaging solutions with product managers.

  • The Shanklin® Omni G and Omni S are designed to accept modular, ‘plug-and-play’ infeeds which can be purchased separately and used on the same Omni system. The Omni control network provides automatic system configuration for each modular infeed and other system components. The operator control station provides a user-friendly touch-screen to enable easier device recognition, diagnostics and maintenance. Customers can program up to 100 package recipes on the touch screen, enabling operators to quickly repeat package-size changeovers at the touch of a finger. Available in right-to-left or left-to-right configurations, companies can integrate the systems into existing production lines easily, and one operator can control two machines, or more than one production line, simultaneously.
  • Ideally suited for fresh meat cuts as well as smoked and processed applications, the Cryovac® BL-101 is a fully automatic bag loader with packaging speeds up to 15 cycles per minute. The system can load individual and multiple cuts into boxed or rolled taped bags and convey them to a Cryovac® rotary chamber vacuumizing system. The BL-101 handles bags widths from 9 inches to 14 inches, and bag lengths from 14 inches to 24 inches.
  • Cryovac® Onpack 2100A vertical form-fill-seal packaging system produces pouches for liquid and semi-liquid foods, including condiments, edible oils, fruit fillings and liquid eggs. Easy to operate, the 2100A is ideal for bag-in-box systems and enables food processors greater flexibility because it can also package products that contain food particulates up to 1 ½ inches in diameter.
  • Compact and versatile, the Fill-Air Elite inflatable packaging system conveniently fits into single or multiple workstations. The Fill-Air Elite cushions can be created on-demand or made in advance and stored for future use. The system is equipped with various accessories that include a photo eye, foot pedal and delivery systems that guarantee a supply of cushions for any dunnage application. The easy-to-use system requires minimal training, is entirely electric and does not require the use of shop air.
  • The next generation for cost-effective void-fill solutions, the Fill-Air Velocity inflatable packaging system utilizes Sealed Air’s patented MightySeal technology producing cushions that retain air more effectively than standard cushions while maintaining cushion size under load. The system enables the user to customize the cushion size in the middle of production without changing the film-supply roll, and adjust the cushion fill-rate. Ideal for high volume operations, the system can produce 80 cushions, measuring 8 inches by 8 inches, per minute and support multiple on-line or off-line work stations.
  • The Instapak® GFlex® QS foam has faster demold capability and forms into a cushion in 30 seconds. Specifically designed to package a range of products in a variety of shapes and sizes, the unique characteristics of the foam provide maximum protection with minimal packaging. The foam also increases productivity on the packaging line by forming a molded cushion three times faster than the original GFlex® foam. The Instapak® GFlex® QS foam can be dispensed using the SpeedyPacker® foam-in-bag, Instapacker Tabletop foam-in-bag or 900 Series hand-held packaging systems.
  • Instapak® Reduced Operator Interface (ROI) packaging system reduces labor costs because less operator supervision is required. Operators can program the system to produce a range of different cushion designs and save the custom configurations to automatically reproduce the engineered packaging with the touch of a button. Operators can produce up to four foam molds per minute using the quick-setting Instapak® GFlex® QS foam, which helps reduce the size of the foam molds because it sets faster, providing maximum protection with minimal packaging. The foam molds can be made in advance and used when needed, and are ideal for a variety of applications, including manufacturing facilities producing items such as air conditions, alloy wheels and computers. The system also decreases the space needed to store shipping supplies.
  • The PriorityPak system is a high-speed product containment and protection solution that allows operators to create up to 20 packages a minute. The smart-sensing technology on the system scans an item’s dimensions to deliver the correct amount of the Cold Seal® cohesive-coated PriorityWrap Bubble laminate or PriorityWrap Rigid Board to the PriorityPak system. The Cold Seal® process creates the seal adjacent to the items which minimizes shifting and produces a compact, custom package. The PriorityPak system is available in three configurations, manual, semi-automated and automated, and easily can accommodate fluctuating package volume and variable packaging requirements. The system can be integrated seamlessly into existing packaging lines which may include other time saving automated features that can weigh, manifest, validate and sort packages to help packaging operations streamline processes further.
  • The SpeedyPacker® Insight packaging system takes the guess-work out of selecting the proper size foam-in-bag packaging. The system features a full-color, user-friendly graphical display with interactive technology where customers can pre-program up to 156 foam-in-bag configurations. Equipped with SpeedyPacker® Continuous Foam Tube (CFT) capability, the SpeedyPacker® Insight system produces traditional foam-filled bags and continuous foam tubes. The flexible system is used online or off-line to produce packaging for void-fill, blocking and bracing, and cushioning applications, including custom-fit protective packaging and bottom pads. For even greater efficiency on the packaging line, packagers can make the continuous foam tubes in advance and store them for future use.

In addition to its newest products, Sealed Air Corporation will display a variety of tried and true favorites including Bubble Wrap® and AirCap® air cellular products; polyethylene foams, such as Cell-Aire®, CelluPlank® and Cellu-Cushion® -NS polyethylene; the Instapacker Tabletop foam-in-bag packaging system; and the complete line of Jiffy® mailers.
