Mechanical Overhead Delivery System Simultaneously Delivers Inflatable Cushions to Multiple Workstations

Saddle Brook, N.J. (Sept. 13, 2005) - Sealed Air Corporation’s Mechanical Overhead Delivery System, also known as MODUS technology, is uniquely designed to increase a company’s packaging productivity. Equipped with a proprietary overhead transport mechanism, MODUS technology delivers inflatable cushions, from Sealed Air’s Fill-Air® inflatable packaging systems, into overhead bins. One Mechanical Overhead Delivery System can support multiple packaging stations on-line or off-line, ensuring a centralized, efficient operation.

MODUS technology has been ergonomically designed to promote operator convenience and comfort. By placing a bin directly over the packager, excess stretching, twisting or turning is reduced or eliminated. The packer merely pulls the inflatable cushions from the bin, and arranges them around and on top of the items for void-fill protection. Once the cushions are in place, the carton is sealed and ready for shipping.

Each bin is equipped with an auto-replenishment sensor that helps maintain the pre-determined amount of cushions for each workstation, which ensures a steady workflow and leads to increased productivity.

The benefits of MODUS technology include increased uptime on equipment because fewer operators have to interface with the equipment, since only one machine roll at one location has to be changed instead of several. In addition to allowing packagers to concentrate on packaging and not monitoring rolls, the Mechanical Overhead Delivery System increases the amount of work space that an operator has available.

MODUS technology is ideal for high-volume void fill applications, multiple workstations used for packaging and on-line packaging facilities with restricted floor space. The system provides for faster packaging time which can decrease lead time to meet today’s demanding customer expectations and delivery schedules.
