Cryovac® Packaging Technologies Extend Quality Life of Seafood

Case Ready Options Featured at the 2006 Boston Seafood Show

DUNCAN, S.C. (March 12, 2006) - Cryovac Food Packaging Division of Sealed Air Corporation has new case ready options added to its family of fresh fish packaging that will be on display at the Boston Seafood Show on March 12 through March 14. Visitors can view the packages at the Cryovac® booth #2354 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

Case ready fish is truly achievable with proven Cryovac modified atmosphere packaging systems, combined with the new Avery Dennison TT Sensor™ time-temperature indicator. These active labels let retailers know if a product has experienced temperature abuse. Once activated, the TT Sensor™ will change color from yellow to pink at a pre-determined rate based on temperature exposure. The labels meet FDA guidelines for MAP packaging.

Another highlight will be the Cryovac 10K OTR Darfresh® vacuum skin package for fresh and frozen fish and shrimp. The Darfresh® package meets FDA oxygen permeability standards with its guaranteed oxygen transmission rate (OTR) greater than 10,000 cc/m2/24 hours and prevents surface dehydration and freezer burn because of its exceptionally skintight fit, which will enable processors and retailers to employ a freeze and slack out option. The package is leak-resistant, prevents product purge and helps minimize the risk of cross contamination. Offering the same OTR capacity and solid protection as the Darfresh® package, the Cryovac® 10K OTR bag is used for bulk packaging of fresh fish products. Booth visitors also will see the Cryovac® Simple Steps™ heat-and-serve package. This easy-open, microwavable package is designed for pre-cooked entrees such as fillets and shrimp. Using Cryovac® vacuum skin packaging technology and a unique self-venting feature, the Simple Steps™ package eliminates handling messy, hot pouches. Its “stay cool” handles and easy-open tabs help shield consumers against spills or burns.
