Modified Atmosphere Packaging for Fish and Seafood
Recent packaging innovations have opened new opportunities for modified atmosphere fish packaging in the seafood case for retailers. Case ready seafood is truly achievable with Cryovac® modified atmosphere packaging and vacuum skin packaging systems. These proven technologies have been adapted to meet seafood’s special requirements, helping improve profitability and reduce shrink.
Lidstock and Barrier Tray Package
This lidstock-and-tray combination, together with gas flushing, creates the desired low oxygen modified atmosphere that substantially prolongs the freshness and quality life of refrigerated seafood products.
- Designed with an oxygen-barrier layer to maintain the desired gas mixture, LID1050 anti-fog lidstock has two internal abuse layers that provide additional protection.
- This lidstock hermetically seals to the preformed barrier foam tray during the packaging process.
- During refrigerated storage and retail display, LID1050 materials remain fog-free and sparkling in appearance, providing a full view of the product and greatly enhancing the merchandising appeal.
- Available with barrier foam or solid barrier tray.
BDF 2060 Film
BDF 2060 offers a shrink film alternative for packaging many oxygen-sensitive, perishable products. This extremely tough material is highly resistant to punctures, tears and abrasions and is excellent for packaging high profile and irregularly shaped products.
- A multilayered, coextruded film formulated with anti-fog, oxygen and aroma barrier properties that can be hermetically sealed.
- As an oxygen barrier, the film provides important merchandising benefits. Superior gloss and sheen along with excellent see-through and contact clarity provide maximum merchandising appeal.
- Medium to high slip and impressive machinability enable BDF 2060 film to run on various types of equipment.
Time-Temperature Indicator Labels
Both of these Modified Atmosphere Packages are ideal for use with Avery Dennison TT Sensor™ time-temperature indicator labels. These active labels let retailers know if a product has experienced temperature abuse during transport or display. Once activated, the TT Sensor™ changes color from yellow to pink at a pre-determined rate based on temperature exposure. These labels meet FDA guidelines for MAP packaging of fresh seafood products.
