RAPID ALERTS FOR FOOD AND FEED PROBLEMS INCREASED
The rise of about 22 percent in notifications for food and feed problems in 2005 is mainly caused by better control mechanism instead of unsafe food.
Especially the new Member States contribute to this effect, said European Commission lately. Less than one third of the 3158 original notifications were actually classified as alert and most of alerts were initiated by border or market controls - when food or feed was reaching another market. The most severe alert concerned pathogenic micro organism, followed by composition and food additives.
