Recycling Cryovac® Food Packaging Materials

Cryovac® bags, barrier trays and laminate materials are not commercially recyclable because they are either highly cross-linked or are multilayered consisting of thermally incompatible polymers. This means that the polymers melt at different temperatures and cannot be separated cost effectively to be formed into other products.

We recommend incineration of bags, barrier trays and laminates with energy recovery in properly designed and controlled incinerators or placing materials in properly designed sanitary landfills. The end user is responsible for ensuring that disposal practices are in compliance with applicable laws and governmental enactments.

Sanitary considerations preclude recycling used meat, fish and poultry pads. However, the pads which are made from cellulose fluff, pulp and polyethylene are acceptable for municipal disposal systems.
