Instapak® Quick Foam Packaging

Safe Use Information

This product contains two separate liquids (Component "A" and Component "B"), that when warmed and mixed together, will react and expand to form polyurethane foam. Use this product only with the Quick Warmer manufactured by Sealed Air Corporation.

The information contained within the Instapak® Quick User's Guide and on the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), should be read and understood before using this product. All precautions should be followed when using this product.

Expanded Foam

Instapak® Quick components "A" and "B" are mixed inside an internal pouch. The material that expands is liquid polyurethane. This liquid quickly expands and solidifies to form a custom-fit protective packaging material for your product. Polyurethane foams are chemically inert, not considered hazardous materials and are found in many aspects of our daily lives, e.g., bedding, chair cushions, carpet padding and automobiles.

The packaging area should be designated as a "no smoking" area. Smoking in the presence of polyurethane foams, as with most packaging materials, increases the risk of fire.

Component "A"

Component "A" (Dark Brown Liquid) Contains: Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate ("Polymeric" MDI; CAS. No.9016-87-9), 4,4' diphenylmethane diisocyanate (4,4' MDI; CAS. No. :101-68-8)

WARNING!

  • Can cause eye, skin and respiratory tract irritation.
  • May cause allergic skin or respiratory reactions.
  • Allergic respiratory reaction may be immediate or may be delayed until several hours later.
  • Overexposure may cause lung damage and allergic respiratory reaction. These effects may be permanent.
  • Avoid breathing vapors.
  • Individuals with lung or breathing problems or prior isocyanate sensitivity must not be exposed to vapors.
  • Wash thoroughly with soap and water after contact with component "A".
  • Do not get in eyes, on skin or on clothing.
  • Use adequate ventilation.

Component "B"

Component "B" (Clear Straw Liquid) Contains: Polyurethane foam resin

CAUTION!

  • Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.
  • May cause eye irritation.
  • Wash thoroughly with soap and water after contact with component "B".

First Aid

In case of eye or skin contact with components "A" and "B" or the liquid polyurethane:

  • Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and, if necessary, get medical attention.
  • Wash off skin with soap and water.
  • Remove contaminated clothing and footwear.
  • If redness, itching, or a burning sensation develops, get medical attention.
  • Wash contaminated clothing and footwear before reuse.

If an individual experiences any inhalation effects:

  • Remove person to fresh air.
  • If not breathing, give artificial respiration, preferably mouth to mouth. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen.
  • Consult medical personnel.
  • Asthmatic-type symptoms may develop immediately or may be delayed for several hours after exposure.
  • Treatment for inhalation of component "A" should be based on the symptoms.

Safety

  • Avoid being in the direct path of off-gassing steam to optimize operator safety and comfort.

  • Safety glasses with side shields should be worn while using Instapak® Quick packaging.
  • Cotton gloves may be worn to protect hands against heat generated after the bag is started.
  • Use ventilation adequate to keep exposure to vapors below recommended exposure limits for MDI of 0.02 ppm (0.2 mg/cu. meter) OSHA PEL ceiling limit, and 0.005 ppm (0.05 mg/cu. meter) ACGIH TLV-TWA.
  • If recommended exposure levels are exceeded, wear respiratory protection.
  • Use only with the Quick Warmer
  • Do not microwave any Instapak® Quick bag.

Storage

  • Store cartons containing bags between 50° and 100°F (10°-38°C).
  • Do not store this product out-of-doors.
  • Protect bags from excessive exposure to moisture. Moisture contamination inside the internal "A" pouch can cause the formation of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. CO2 can cause pressure buildup and cause the pouch to rupture.
  • Do not remove bags from carton until ready to place in the Quick Warmer.
